Description

This project started at the University of Texas Arlington in the College of Engineering and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. For a few years we accumulated material and documented it. We received the generous loan of a set of 8 vitrines from the Origins Project that allowed us to set up a series of displays that occasionally enlightened some of the students by displaying items that were older than they were with explanatory notes about the history of the items.

Eventually the collection grew to the point that the College and the Department began to feel that they could no longer support the effort, so we began the process of turning our project into a separate entity. We began by establishing a non-profit corporation. We received our charter from the State of Texas in August of 2007. In February of 2008 we were granted approval from the United States Internal Revenue Service as an exempt organization under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Code effective as of the August 2007 date.

Initially we were known as the Arlington Museum of Information Technology. In May of 2009 we changed to name to emphasize the wider scope of interest the Museum has for the state of Texas.
