Description
The EarlyComputers Project focuses on personal computing history prior to 1981. The collection consists of over 175 personal computers from the 1960’s and 1970’s. It also houses more than 20 analog computers from the 1950's and 60's. In addition, we collect published materials related to computing prior to 1981 such as magazines, brochures, newsletters and books. The publication part of the collection includes the 1834 Edinburgh Review’s articles on Charles Babbage, Herman Hollerith's 1889 author’s copy of the first article he wrote about the Electric Tabulating System and the 1948 monograph by Claude Shannon on his mathematical theory of communication.
