Greg Downey is a US-based historian and geographer of technology, employed at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an Associate Professor in the School of Journalism & Mass Communication and the School of Library & Information Studies (with affiliate appointments in Geography and History of Science). He is the author of Telegraph Messenger Boys: Labor, Technology, and Geography, 1850-1950 (Routledge, 2002) and Closed Captioning: Subtitling, Stenography, and the Digital Convergence of Text with Television (Johns Hopkins, 2008).
