Jonathan's research focuses on early computer development for process control (e.g "Megabytes for Metals – The development of computer applications in the iron and steel industry" Ironmaking and Steelmaking, vol. 31, no. 6, 2004, pp.465-478, featured on www.maney [UK] and www.smecc [USA] websites) This has led him to stray into related areas such as computers for defence, the issue of early computer development and performance, and patent racing between early mainframe suppliers. His current concern is the shaping of the Ferranti Argus process control computer.
