Description

Kidwell has her doctorate in history of science from Yale University, and has been the Smithsonian Institution since 1984. Her research interests include the history of such objects as calculating machines, geometric models, slide rules, library card catalogues, and educational software for mathematics. Her latest online exhibition relates to mathematics and science education in the United States in the age of Sputnik ( http://www.americanhistory.si.edu/mobilizing ). With Amy Ackerberg-Hastings David Lindsay Roberts, she has just written Material to Learn: Tools of American Mathematics Teaching 1800-2000, a book to be published by Johns Hopkins University Press in the spring of 2008.
