Description

Andrew L. Russell is a postdoctoral fellow in the John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute at Duke University. In 2007 he completed a Ph.D. in the History of Science and Technology from The Johns Hopkins University. His dissertation was titled "'Industrial Legislatures': Consensus Standardization in the Second and Third Industrial Revolutions." He has published articles and book chapters on the history of the Internet, telecommunications standards, and the World Wide Web Consortium. He is in the early stages of a new project that explores how modular principles moved from their origins in the realm of architecture and became adopted by professionals in a variety of fields, including computer science, economics, organizational science, and beyond. Andrew has a B.A. in History from Vassar College and an M.A. in History from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Before entering graduate school, he worked for two years in the Harvard Information Infrastructure Project at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
