Co-founder of Motorola, Galvin helped establish one of the world's leading telecommunications companies. Founded as Galvin Manufacturing Corporation on September 25, 1928, Motorola became a leader in communications equipment. Galvin was born in Harvard, Illinois and served as an artillery officer during World War I. Later, he attended Illinois Institute of Technology.
During college he was an active member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. He lived briefly in Marshfield, Wisconsin. His son, Bob Galvin, directed the creation of the Six Sigma quality system when he was running the company.
The school library on the Illinois Institute of Technology's main campus is named after him.
