Recognized for pioneering research into drug-coated intravascular stents for the treatment of restenosis, Burke helped establish a cornerstone of Abbott's cardiovascular device research and supported the company's entry into this competitive market. As Director of Cardiovascular Biology Research at Abbott Vascular, she brought more than 20 years of cardiovascular research experience to her work.

A prolific contributor to the scientific literature, Burke authored over 65 abstracts and book chapters. She is a Fellow of the American Heart Association. Beyond her research role, she served as a role model for students by speaking at area high schools and student forums on career opportunities in science and technology.
