HP introduced its rewritable disc libraries in 1989, beginning with the C1711A. This unit held 32 discs with a total capacity of 20.8 GB. The C1700A replaced the C1711A in 1990. In 1991, HP introduced the 88-disc C1704A and the 144-disc C1705A.
