Born 1958 in Ulm/Germany; studied History and German Languages in Munich; PhD. in Modern History 1986; Director of Research of the Deutsches Museum since 1993 and Professor for Modern History and History of Technology at the University of Munich since 1998; main fields of research include historical innovation studies and transport history; the list of publications comprise 24 books and edited volumes and some 80 articles in journals end edited volumes.
