Peter Ryan is a Principal Research Scientist in DSTO’s Air Operations Division. He graduated from Melbourne University with a BSc (Hons, First Class) in 1975 and a PhD in 1981. After postdoctoral work at the University of Massachusetts, USA he joined DSTO in 1985. During 1988-1989 he was a Visiting Scientist at the Admiralty Research Establishment (Bincleaves) at Weymouth, UK. He worked in Maritime Operations Division on the modelling and simulation of underwater warfare. In 1998, he joined the Simulation & Human Factors Branch of Air Operations Division to work in the field of simulation technology. His main research interests include Advanced Distributed Simulation technologies, real-time simulation, and synthetic environments and their potential to provide enhanced training solutions for the Australian Defence Force.
