Description

Developer of the first manufactured hard disk drive, Johnson began his career as a teacher after graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1929, and invented an electronic test scoring machine, for which IBM bought the rights and hired him. He was sent to San Jose in 1952 to set up the IBM West Coast laboratory, where he managed the creation of the first hard disk drive to be manufactured.
