Description

One of the leading female codebreakers at Bletchley Park during World War II, Batey served England as a codebreaker and later built a second career as a historian, author, and conservationist focused on historic parks and gardens. She received the Veitch Memorial Medal in 1985 and was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1987, both honors recognizing her contributions to garden conservation.
