Description

Pioneer of Taiwan's personal computer industry, Miau is an information industry veteran with decades of experience on both sides of the Pacific. He was born in Shantung (China), grew up and attended primary school in Taiwan, and high school in Hong Kong. He received a Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1970 and, in 1976, an MBA from Santa Clara University. In 2002 he received an Honorary Doctorate from Chao-Tung University, Taiwan.

Upon his graduation from UC Berkeley, his first engineering job was with Electronic Arrays, which was later bought by North American Philips. In 1971 he moved to the fledgling semiconductor company, Intel Corporation, where he worked with the founding team members as well as many other of the early Intel employees who went on to become well-known industry leaders. It was while at Intel that Miau went to the University of Santa Clara to earn his MBA.

In 1976, he left Intel and returned to Taiwan, where he invested in and became Chairman of Taiwan Automation Company. The company later became MiTAC, which itself became the foundation for MiTAC International, a group of information technology related global businesses headquartered in Taiwan. He was the first Taiwanese engineer working in Silicon Valley to return to his home country to start up his own technology firm.

Miau has served as Chairman of MiTAC-SYNNEX Group, which consisted of MiTAC Inc. (Taiwan's first computer company), MiTAC International Corp. (one of the top three PC firms on the island), SYNNEX Technology Int'l (the largest IT distribution and order fulfillment company in Asia), and SYNNEX Information Technologies (the 3rd largest electronics distributor in the US). He has also served as Chairman of Lien Hwa Industrial Corporation. Miau has been a member of the Board of Directors of BOC Lienhwa Industrial Gases Co. Ltd., Winbond Electronics Corp., Getac Technology Corporation, and Synnex Corporation.
