Description

Lead architect on the team that developed the original WebSphere Application Server in 1998, McGee has been instrumental in establishing IBM as the leader in cloud technologies, Java-based application server middleware, and application-aware virtualization. He has served as chief architect for such well-known software as WebSphere eXtended Deployment, PureApplication System, IBM Workload Deployer, and WebSphere Cloud Computing, as well as the watershed Version 5 system design. McGee was the son of two career IBM employees and graduated with a Computer Engineering degree from Virginia Tech in 1995.

He briefly worked at HP before joining IBM in 1997, becoming the lead architect on the team that developed the original WebSphere Application Server in 1998. His innovations in using application awareness helped the application server move into the realm of virtualization and cloud computing. Those innovations were then applied to expert integrated systems under McGee's leadership of IBM PureApplication System.

He went on to serve as technology ambassador to Egypt.
