Description

Inventor of the external hard-disk drive, Walker overcame the inherent restrictions of early microcomputers to devise a scheme for the attachment of external storage devices via ports that were not originally designed for that purpose.

Walker's approach came at a time when such solutions were far from straightforward. USB has since made this significantly simpler, but at the time, a parallel-port-connected HDD was a significant innovation.
