A Reel to Reel Tape tape deck. 3/4 inch tape width.Tape path and control achieved by large independant Vacuum and Pressure pumps distributed by 1/2 inch copper piping. 12 running together would probably be above todays Health and Safety. THe whole unit could be lower by a jack and onto it's wheels to transport to the Engineers romm for regular maintenance or resolution of major problems. Extreemly labour intensive taking 1 1/2 to 2 days to carry out the service and rigorous testing by a large complex Test simulator. (that never broke in 4 years, just as well as nobody knew how it worked!) This was one of two models of Tape Deck I saw used on KDF9's the other being a lower spec 1081.
