Typesafe is a company founded by Martin Odersky and the other creators of the Scala programming language and Akka middleware in 2011. It provides training, consulting, maintenance and commercial support for the Scala programming language and its associated technologies. They offer a custom packaging of the Scala programming language, Play framework, Akka and other developer tools called the Typesafe Stack. The company is one of the backers of the Play framework along with Zenexity and also developed a plugin for the Eclipse IDE called Scala IDE for Eclipse.The company's current CEO is Mark Brewer and Martin Odersky serves as the Chairman and Chief Architect.Typesafe initially raised $3 million dollars for Series A funding from Greylock Partners. It raised another $14 million dollars for Series B from Shasta Ventures, Greylock Partners, Juniper Networks and Francois Stieger.
