The Document Foundation is a German Stiftung that promotes open-source software. It was created by members of the OpenOffice.org community to manage and develop a fork called LibreOffice. Its goal is to produce a vendor-independent office suite with ODF support and without any copyright assignment requirements. This was in contrast to OpenOffice.org at that time, which required developers assign copyright to Oracle.
